Why Trying Harder Often Doesn’t Work

What happens when you stop fighting yourself?

“Don’t let your mind bully your body into believing it must carry the burden of its worries.” — Astrid Alauda

Have you ever found yourself really trying to change something in your life…only to feel frustrated that it still isn’t shifting the way you hoped?

So often, when we want to change something in our lives, it can feel like we need to force those changes to happen.

But that seldom works for long.

Lasting change most often happens through support, awareness, and feeling safe enough internally to move in a new direction.

Over the past several weeks, I’ve been writing and talking a lot about the connection between stress, the nervous system, and our overall well-being.

And judging from the conversations I’ve been having lately, this topic is resonating deeply with many women.

Because for so long, the conversation around weight and health has focused almost entirely on:
• discipline
• willpower
• restriction
• pushing harder
• and trying to “fix” ourselves

But what if there’s another layer that deserves far more attention?

The nervous system.

I’m seeing more and more women who are exhausted—not just physically, but emotionally.

Women who are:
• overwhelmed
• carrying invisible stress
• emotionally drained
• struggling with self-criticism
• and feeling frustrated with their bodies

And interestingly, this is showing up whether someone is:
• trying to lose weight naturally
• changing long-standing habits
• OR even using GLP-1 medications.

Because while medications may help support physical weight loss, they don’t automatically calm the nervous system.

They don’t automatically:
• reduce stress
• quiet emotional overwhelm
• improve self-worth
• heal guilt around eating
• change deeply rooted habits
• or create a healthier relationship with ourselves

And that’s an important conversation.

In fact, many women using GLP-1 medications are still navigating:
• anxiety around food choices
• fear of regaining weight
• pressure to “get it right”
• emotional eating patterns
• identity shifts
• digestive discomfort or nausea from medication side effects
• and the stress of trying to meet expectations

And when the nervous system is already under stress, those side effects can sometimes feel even more overwhelming and difficult to manage.

This is one reason why I believe supportive mind-body work matters so much.

Because sustainable change rarely happens through pressure alone.

It happens when the mind, body, emotions, and nervous system begin working together differently.

That’s why in my Stress-Weight Reset Program, we focus on much more than food or numbers on a scale.

We work with:
• stress patterns
• subconscious beliefs
• nervous system regulation
• emotional triggers
• self-talk
• and creating a calmer internal environment for change

And something interesting often happens when women begin supporting themselves in this deeper way.

They frequently notice:

  • less emotional eating
  • feeling calmer around food
  • reduced guilt and self-criticism
  • more restful sleep
  • improved confidence
  • healthier choices feeling more natural
  • feeling more emotionally balanced
  • and greater trust in themselves again

Not because they became “perfect.”

But because they stopped fighting themselves quite so hard.

That shift matters.

Especially in a world constantly telling women to push harder, do more, and criticize themselves into change.

I don’t believe lasting well-being grows from shame or pressure.

I believe it grows from support, awareness, self-understanding, and learning how to work with ourselves more compassionately.

If you’ve been feeling frustrated, stuck, emotionally exhausted, or disconnected from your body and well-being, please know:
you are not failing.

You may simply need a different approach.

One that supports not only your body—but your nervous system, emotions, mindset, and deeper patterns as well.

This is the kind of deeper support I love helping women create through my individualized Stress-Weight Reset Program.
