Understanding our minds
Hypnosis and hypnotherapy are based on the principle that both the brain and the mind are divided into two distinct parts. The left side of the brain, associated with the conscious mind, is responsible for logical thinking, analysis and action. The right side of the brain, associated with the subconscious (or unconscious) mind, is home to our emotions, imagination, values and habits.
The conscious and subconscious minds work together hand in hand. Learning, for example, occurs when the conscious mind encounters, analyzes and eventually accepts a new idea. Once accepted as true, this information then filters into the subconscious mind where it takes root—becoming, in turn, a force that influences the thoughts and actions our conscious mind controls. The subconscious mind is, literally, the brains behind the operation, home to a vast reservoir of information that influences everything we think and do.
Hypnotherapy is the skilled use of hypnosis to beneficially change the core beliefs and attitudes that govern our lives. How can it help you? Using hypnotherapy to achieve your health and wellness goals is like gardening. It allows you to access the fertile soil of your subconscious mind, where you may weed out old habits and attitudes, planting healthier ones in their place. With time and attention, these seeds put down roots and eventually bloom above surface of the soil, within the conscious mind—and your life.
Hypnotherapy has been proven successful in resolving a number of issues including weight loss, smoking, stress and anxiety. It is also a popular method for facilitating a comfortable childbirth and managing diseases such as diabetes.
Powerful changes start from within… The subconscious is home to our creativity, our imagination, our emotions, our habits and instincts. It is here where solutions can be known and where healing occurs. It is here where permanent change takes place. –Jackie Foskett
