Are Worry and Fear Running the Show?
I just returned two+ weeks ago from an extended time away—it was an amazing experience exploring new regions my husband and I hadn’t been to before, as well as re-visiting places we love, such as my beloved Switzerland. I spent four years living and working there as a dental hygienist many moons ago, and if I get the chance to go back, I do.
This time, it was because friends of ours were going, and I wanted to share the experience of Switzerland with them. We only stayed five days, but being in the Swiss Alps always brings me such joy.
When I’m gone for a long period, as we get close to returning home, I start to notice that some worry starts to kick in. I begin wondering: How long will it take to get back into my regular rhythm? Will my energy suffer from jet lag? How will I get back into my projects after being away so long?
The truth is, none of us are immune to worry or fear—not even those of us who teach calm and mindset work! What makes the difference for me is that I’ve chosen to be aware of these pesky, nagging thoughts so they don’t run amok in my mind rent-free! Awareness is key to making any change. When I catch myself feeling uneasy about transitioning back into “non-travel life,” I pause and ask: What’s really going on here? What is this worry trying to tell me?
Often, just asking questions brings clarity and helps me shift from tension to trusting the process. I remind myself to be compassionate and to allow time for life to fall back into place.
Having compassion and understanding of our worries is a vital step in transforming them into fuel—fuel that motivates us to be our best selves rather than allowing fear and worry to drain our energy and confidence.
As you read the next blogpost, you’ll see how this kind of awareness—and working with the subconscious mind—can help you transform fear and worry into calm confidence that propels you forward.
