Post-Holiday Blues? Reflect, Reset, and Embrace a New You for 2025!

If you celebrated the Christmas Holiday, of course, it’s now come and gone.

My wish is that you had a peaceful and enjoyable day however you spent it. And, if you’re celebrating Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or even still making merry for this “holiday week,” keep enjoying your celebrations.

My husband and I had a wonderful holiday “month,” enjoying the company of various friends in small groups in our very decorated home, as well as going out for some events.

That’s what I love about the holidays-all the many ways to connect up with our dear friends that we either haven’t seen for a while, or just want to enjoy the holiday spirit together.

But then it comes to an end. I’ll be honest, I got a bit down after the “big” day has happened. I know it’ll soon be time to take down my decorations and get my house back to its pre-holiday style.

And, there’s a lot to look forward to as we enter a new year. I love to create and design my year that isn’t about resolutions, but about envisioning how I want it to be and who I WANT to BE! Which is both exciting and inspiring for sure… Yet, I find the let-down feeling or post-holiday blues had emerged.

So, rather than just ignore it and solder on, I am choosing to acknowledge it and then do some reflecting about what I’m experiencing.

It’s really important to be aware of our emotions, identify what they are as well as ask what we might understand and/or learn from them. My reflection has brought forth many things, but I’ll share a few that perhaps you might relate to as well.

1-I found the holidays gave me something concrete to focus on. It’s a “known,” and I know how to do “it.” I got focused on my decorating, focused on my food buying and prepping and focused on the many events/gatherings we were doing.

  • This has me aware that in my day-to-day living, I could use more intentional focus on some important areas of my life. (Hint: I’ll be using that in my design for 2025!)
  • And, as all that type of focus started to fade away after Christmas, it brought on some of the “let down” emotions. Nothing wrong or right about any of this, just an awareness of what triggered some of the let down!

2-Even though I chose to engage at this level of decorating, entertaining and playing with more friends than usual, as well as continuing to work with clients, it was still a lot of work.

I’m not complaining-just recognizing that it’s that feeling after having completed something, where the energy levels change from being quite active during the process to slowing down after its over.

  • Seems obvious, but my understanding of this for myself is to remember that this is a natural way of feeling after many weeks of being “on” and full of high energy.
  • What I’m re-learning and want to remind myself of… is that the ebb and flow of life happens this time of the year, too!

3-Being connected with our many friends during this holiday month has been great. There was a lot of socializing, which I love, but can take away needed downtime.

Additionally, I did miss seeing family members who are either across the country or not close enough to join us in these types of gatherings, which also brought up feelings that I didn’t really have the time to assimilate.

  • My takeaway from this is to once again RE-MIND myself that it’s natural to need and want downtime after a lot of group togetherness and to allow myself to feel some sadness of missing some important people, too.

As I’ve shared my awarenesses of my “let down” feelings with you, I’m already letting go of those feelings and forming ideas for my intentions for the New Year and the holiday season in 2025!
