The Tricks Our Minds Play | What if the Stressful Thoughts You Believe… Aren’t Even True?
“Don’t believe everything you think. You are not your thoughts.”
— Byron Katie
Happy April Fool’s Day!
I’ve never been fond of April Fool’s Day kinds of “tricks,” but I find it’s a perfect opportunity to look at how we get tricked all the time from our own minds.
You see, our thoughts can run amok and cause us all sorts of worries-which by the way-studies have shown most of what we worry about, approximately 90%, doesn’t actually come to fruition.
But the problem is: we often believe everything we think.
Yes, our minds are consistently having not only April Fool’s Days, but every fools day! ?
Now, hear me out-you’re not a fool by any means.
It’s just your mind has tricked you into believing that your worrying will bring about solutions…or you telling yourself you’re no good at something is true, so why bother trying, or that all those people who are on the road slowing you up are stressing you out and there’s nothing you can do about it!
It will keep you in those loops-endlessly, unless you decide it’s time to question their validity.
I love to ask myself the question below if I’m stressing or worried I’m not doing something right…or hear my inner critic getting especially loud!
“Is that really true?” It gives me pause to stop and examine the thoughts, worries or stressed feeling I’m experiencing.
And, in doing so, it frees me up from the pattern/thoughts/worries I was tricked into having at that moment.
So, on this Fool’s day of April, why not decide that you don’t want to be tricked like that by your own mind?
When you bring awareness to all the mind’s past negative stories, its history of telling you fibs and lies, you can begin to put an end to the fooling you syndrome!
As we warm up this spring and watch the growth Mother Nature shows us, it seems like a perfect time to pull out the tricky weeds and grow some beautiful flowers for our minds.
You can stop the endless stress, anxious and worrisome tricky thoughts your mind wants to play on you.
Wouldn’t you agree it’d feel good to feel more grounded, freed up and have more inner calm this spring? This year?
